Effective Tips On Saving Cooking Gas

Almost all students in higher institutions now use cookers at their hostels. This is no surprise because cookers are convenient and they are also environmentally friendly. Moreso, the daily increase in refilling the gas cylinder ia as hurting to students, considering the current economic situation. Therefore brings up the need to  save gas as well as money. These tips have been proven to be effective and efficient, inorder to help students safe more on campus.

  • Make Available All Ingredients Before Cooking
The first thing to do is to get together, all ingredients and utensils needed before starting the gas, it  is a good way to make sure that no gas is wasted. Rather than hunting for ingredients while the burner is on, it is more useful to first keep all the ingredients at hand before you start cooking.

  • Avoid Gas leaks
Check for any apparent leak before starting the gas, apart from it saving the gas, if would prevent fire outbreak while cooking. Checking the seals of the burner ensures that no amount of gas gets wasted in any way. Keep a check on the regulator, the pipe and burner for small leakages that can easily develop with time and can go on without noticing it.

  • Wipe The Pot And Other Utensils Dry Before Placing Them On A Burner
The utensils which have some amount of water droplets inside them or on the body consume more gas for the water to get evaporated. Which has been one of the most common mistakes committed by almost all students while in haste to cook before and after school lectures, this also can make a difference between saving and wasting gas. Wiping the utensils dry with a damp cloth before placing them on the burner can go a  way.
  • Avoid overcooking
Gas cookers are very fast when cooking food. This raises the possibility of food being overcooked. This is not good for both the food and your gas as overcooking can kill the nutrients in the food along with wastage of gas. Also note the time for cooking each quantity of food items, i.e, noodles will take 3 minutes to be well cooked.
  • Use a pot that covers the burner
Using a small bottom pan over a large burner would only increase wastage, as the flames that reach the side of the utensil are not useful in cooking and are only increasing wastage. Pots with moderate bottom side (according to the size of your burner) would have all flames concentrated to it bottom, and avoid gas wastage. For effective saving of gas, always use a pot that covers the burner entirely for efficient cooking and optimal usage of gas.
  • Always Cook On Low Flame
Most students would like to cook on high flame to time, but cooking on a low flame is one of the best ways to make sure that the food retains it nutrition content and never gets overcooked. Cooking on low flame also makes sure that gas is not wasted. Once the pan gets heated you can reduce the gas to a low flame to allow for gas savings.

JAMB: FG Tells Institutions How Much To Charge For Post-UTME

The Federal Government on Tuesday warned that it would sanction any tertiary institution which charges more than N2,000 for Post-UTME.
Minister of Education, Alhaji Adamu Adamu, gave the warning at the ongoing Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Policy Meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions in Gbongan, Osun.
Adamu said, “At the 2017 policy meeting, I endorsed that any institution which was interested in conducting any form of Post-UTME screening could do so, but that the gross charge for the screening should not be more than N2,000.
“Once again, let me caution heads of tertiary institutions that it would not be tolerated for any institution to charge any fee beyond the approved two thousand naira (N2,000).
“Firmer sanctions than those of last session shall be applied to cases of violation,” the minister said.
Adamu, however, said that the policy meeting would continue to be the forum where the agenda, guidelines, modalities, and timelines would be set for the purpose of admissions to universities, polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education in Nigeria.
“Therefore, no admission to any tertiary institutions should be announced before the policy meeting.

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the dissolution of the Governing Board of National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB).
The decision was contained in a three paragraph statement issued by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono, on Monday in Abuja.
The decision is with immediate effect.
The President also rescinded the suspension of NABTEB Registrar, Prof. Ifeoma Abanihe and four (4) other Directors of the agency.
The statement said their suspension did not conform to due process especially in the case of the registrar.
According to the statement, the Governing Board went beyond its powers and in contravention of Section 5 and Section 6 of NABTEB Act.

“The purported suspension of the Registrar, Prof. Ifeoma Abanihe and four (4) other Directors of NABTEB has been nullified as it did not conform with due process especially in the case of the Registrar, because the Board went beyond its powers and in contravention of Section 5 and Section 6 of NABTEB Act.”
